Raising Consciousness
Consciousness and potential for consciousness changes over time. As with all potential, it has to be worked at, nurtured, educated and helped aright to bring it to fruition.
One example is the current growing awareness by more people of the environment and other non-human life forms that inhabit the planet. Until recently, in many societies across the world only a relatively few people recognised themselves as part of the natural world and recognised that other animals and plants have a right to existence and respect. Ever fewer considered the minerals and the substance of the earth itself. Now many more are “waking up” to this and the implications of the old mindset. This is the raising of consciousness showing itself in one obvious identifiable way but history and current times contain many more examples. It was not so long ago that human kind began to wake up to the horrors of sending children down mines and shipping captive people in slave ships. Now there is a growing awareness of child poverty and the exploitation of people in different ways. Other, currently less recognised issues will become recognised as our conscious awareness continues to rise.
Other “awakenings” are more personal and reach into deep spiritual issues and questions.
Some are finding this growing personal awareness quite shocking especially where this occurs as a step-change, or if they believe that they are the first one, or the only one, to have “seen the truth”. However across the population there is always a significant minority that has been “in the know” for many years but not able to discuss or share their knowing with others for risk of being persecuted or labelled as odd in some way. Seeing and knowing before the mainstream of society can feel like a burden and can create a sense of loneliness or aloneness, though a few have had the personal attributes to become leaders or teachers recognised by a significant minority.
As the awakening of humankind appears to widen or gather space, a growing number of people have some knowledge, wisdom or insight to share, with always some at the leading edge.
Whilst there are many organisations and individuals working for the raising of consciousness of mankind, many have little understanding of what this means in practical down-to-earth terms. As suggested above it is not a fluffy process. It is real, it is practical and it will have many impacts upon society over time, some within the short-term and some over a long period.
Balance and balanced responses within the individual, for groups and for nations may be difficult to manage at times and it is this that may cause some bumps or turbulence in aspects of different societies or society as a whole. This is where the phrase “together we are stronger” comes into its own.
Sharing insights, awareness, states of knowing – and states of doubt, confusion and aware unknowing will be helpful in keeping individuals, groups and organisations healthy. It will help with balance, reassurance and celebration.
This is an exciting time. If managed in an awakened way then it can also be a time of joyfulness, opportunity, celebration, camaraderie and good connection between people and also more and more between people and the natural world of which they are an integral part.
This awakening process can and is working into every part of life including commerce, industry, economics, education, politics – everywhere throughout society and around the world, not all at the same pace, and not always smoothly. It will lead to the introduction of new economic models, new ways of teaching and training, new ways of considering sickness and health, science and technology, crime and punishment, new ways – NEW WAYS.
